"Making Home Affordable" Expands Funding
The Making Home Affordable (MHA) program was introduced by President Barack Obama's administration in 2009 in an effort to provide qualified homeowners the ability to reduce mortgage payments to affordable levels. MHA has since expanded the number of specialized programs available to homeowners, and many homeowners that did not previously meet program guidelines may currently be eligible under expanded program criteria.
On April 16, 2013, NeighborWorks America announced that $9.46 million has been allocated to several agencies and organizations for the Making Home Affordable Outreach and Intake Project. Through the project, funding will be made available to help homeowners apply for foreclosure prevention assistance through several MHA work-out options.
Then, on June 28, 2013, NeighborWorks America announced Supplemental Outreach Fund allocations totaling $500,000. These allocations provide funding for participating agencies targeting populations that are potentially eligible for Making Home Affordable but require culturally and linguistically specialized services, are underrepresented by mortgage modifications, or are disproportionately impacted by predatory lending or unemployment.
