Seventh Annual Keenan Summit - Live Stream!

Keenan & Associates' Seventh Annual Summit will be held on March 2, 2011 in Pasadena, California and March 3, 2011 in Berkeley, California. The Keenan Summits are designed to provide schools, hospitals, cities, counties, community colleges and local districts with an opportunity to hear the latest developments and creative strategies from leading experts in the field. This year's keynote speaker is Dr. Jon Kingsdale, the former Executive Director of the Commonwealth Health Insurance Connector Authority, and a premier expert on Health Exchanges. Presenters will include representatives from a wide range of stakeholders and the always popular panel of Health Plan Executives. Important topics of discussion will include exploring the potential workers' compensation reforms under California's new leadership.

Keenan Executive Joins California YMCA Youth & Government Board

Tim Crawford, Vice President of Marketing Communications for Keenan & Associates, has become a member of the YMCA Youth and Government board. Keenan and its employees have long been dedicated to community service, with Keenan formalizing its relationship with the highly regarded YMCA program in February. Keenan offers financial support to the program, brings students to Sacramento to attend its annual governing summit meeting, and mentors students in its local offices.

Health Care Reform: Debit Cards - Over-the-Counter Medicines and Drugs

On December 23, 2010, the Internal Revenue Service issued revised guidance related to debit card use for health reimbursement accounts. Under the new guidance, Flexible Spending Account and Health Reimbursement Account debit cards can continue to be used to purchase over-the-counter drugs, with certain conditions.

Health Care Reform: Nondiscrimination Rules Postponed

On December 23, 2010, Internal Revenue Service Notice 2011-1 was issued to respond to new public comments on the new health care reform rules related to nondiscrimination. This notice indicates that new regulations need to be issued in advance of enforcement of this rule because of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act's lack of specificity about this rule.
