This is a special time of year for taking stock of our blessings with friends and family. We sincerely hope you have many to celebrate.

It's also a time to consider those less fortunate and in need. In recent weeks, we have seen the disastrous effects of the incredible fires in California. People have lost everything they owned, in some cases even their lives. Many remain homeless as the recovery effort progresses. Our thoughts and prayers are with each one of them.

Another group to remember at Thanksgiving is the homeless in our communities. This topic has also been in the news, with concerted efforts underway to address the issue across the state. In our backyard, Orange County United Way and the United to End Homelessness initiative are tackling the situation from several fronts.
