Hello *|FNAME|*,

Two special events are coming up in Southern California that focus on different yet vital issues for our communities. And the topics of these events are relevant to quality-of-life issues anywhere. The first addresses major advances in the fight against cancer, while the second highlights business development in a rapidly growing part of the region. We encourage you to learn more about these organizations.

Dispatch from the Front Lines of the War on Cancer

Dr. Richard Van Etten We're in the midst of a revolution in diagnosing, preventing and treating cancer catalyzed by advances in "omics" technologies that enable precise characterization of the gene mutation and expression patterns of individual cancer cells and their tissue environment.

In this lecture, Dr. Richard Van Etten, Director of UCI's NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, will report on the center's the special role in the Orange County community and on his own work illuminating the promise of the molecular cancer era and the challenges that lie ahead.

We are now curing previously fatal cancers and turning others into chronic diseases whose management resembles hypertension or diabetes. Coupled to this success is the need to address quality of life and survivorship issues in cancer patients, a theme of integrative oncology closely aligned with the UCI Henry & Susan Samueli College of Health Sciences.
