The Internet Marketing Association (IMA) held its 2011 IMA Awards event on the evening of Sept. 22 at the Mandarin Oriental at CityCenter in Las Vegas. The landmark event included an exhibitor showcase, an unprecedented roster of industry expert speakers, awards and special honors, and a smashing after-party overlooking the Las Vegas Strip.

"The Internet Marketing Association had its humble beginnings in 1999. Our goal was to create a unique venue for top Internet marketing professionals to share best practices, develop new mediums and generate business opportunities," said IMA Chairman Sinan Kanatsiz. A Case for Taking Event Content Online
Bridging the Gap Between Event & Internet Marketing

Until recently, research about "virtual" events has been focused on adoption rates and comparisons between face-to-face events and online alternatives. In a recent study, UBM Studios partnered with the Professional Convention Management Association and the Virtual Edge Institute (VEI) to approach the conversation differently.

The new survey looks at how and why people access content at physical events and online. In a recorded webcast, Kathleen Connolly, VP Sales & Development, West for UBM Studios, and Michael Doyle, founder and Executive Director of VEI, discuss the findings and how digital events, environments and communities fit into the Internet marketing landscape.

Social Network Ad Revenues to Reach $10 Billion in 2013
Growth Abroad Outpacing U.S. Market

Worldwide social network ad revenues will reach $5.54 billion this year, eMarketer estimates, with just under half that amount, $2.74 billion, and coming from the U.S. market.

Revenue growth is solidly in the double digits in the U.S., but even more rapid growth elsewhere will mean spending outside the country will account for a slightly greater share each year. By 2013, non-U.S. revenues will make up 51.9% of the total, which will hit nearly $10 billion worldwide. In the U.S., social networks will make $4.81 billion from ads that year.

The bulk of these dollars, in the U.S. and around the world, will go to Facebook, while a much smaller share will go to Twitter and other social networks. eMarketer's first forecast of ad revenues for LinkedIn predicts the site will account for 3% of worldwide social network ad revenues this year, with $140.8 million. The site has more than tripled its ad dollars in two years, though growth is tapering off.
