IMA Attends Education Solutions 2010
Leaders Convene to Address Crisis

It's no secret that California is facing a crisis of historic proportions in its public school systems. Ongoing state budget woes are generating significant teacher layoffs, increased class sizes, limits on curriculum, not to mention extracurricular activities. The high school dropout rate is at an all-time high leading to fewer life opportunities for many young adults.

IMA recently partnered with the nation's largest online high school, Insight Schools, to bring together an outstanding group of experts to address Education Solutions for California. U.S. Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, was the keynote speaker discussing many of the issues California's education systems face.

Critical education issues that were discussed included:
  • High school is a make-or-break period for teenagers with impact on the rest of their lives.
  • California, along with the rest of the nation, is facing a crisis in education.
  • Budget deficits and declining student performance feed a vicious cycle.
  • Dropout rates are at an all-time high, schools are overcrowded, teachers are being fired.
  • "Disruptive" innovation and creative solutions are critical to answering these challenges.
  • Online education leverages technology to create a personalized environment that supports the total student and prepares him or her for a successful future.
The March 30 "Education Solutions 2010" event was a huge success in bringing together leaders in business, government, education and youth services. Manny Madrano was the moderator of this exclusive event at Chapman University. Thank you to the 200-plus educators and professionals that made the event possible.
