New Financial Literacy Initiative by Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Orange County and Hyundai Capital America Began Reaching Classrooms This Week

SANTA ANA, Calif., April 24, 2015 - Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Orange County (CCCS-OC) is pleased to announce the new Financial Futures for Youth and Young Adults program, formed in partnership with Hyundai Capital America (HCA), began reaching classrooms in Orange County this week.

HCA, a top-10 U.S. captive auto finance company that does business as Hyundai Motor Finance and Kia Motors Finance, is the primary sponsor of the new program. With this sponsorship, HCA employees will volunteer time during work hours with CCCS-OC's community partners, including high schools and other youth organizations, to teach basic financial and banking skills to young people. The target reach for the Financial Futures initiative is over 1,000 at-risk youth and young adults from 15 to 25 years old.

Since launching the Financial Futures program last March, CCCS-OC has trained dozens of HCA employees to teach basic financial education sessions designed to help youth and young adults with budgeting, saving, and maintaining financial stability. In keeping with National Financial Literacy Month, HCA volunteers began teaching the classes this week.

"I'm really proud of my HCA colleagues for how readily they volunteered to participate in this program and how engaged they are to teach these topics to kids and young adults who can really benefit from this knowledge," said Carol Moore, HCA's vice president & general counsel and member of CCCS-OC's Board of Directors, as well as one of the program's trained volunteers. "As a lender, we see first-hand how important it is to properly manage your savings and credit, and our partnership with CCCS-OC is a great way for us to help future borrowers start off on the right foot."

Through the new Financial Futures program, HCA is building on its efforts to promote volunteerism in the community with a corporate-led volunteer program that leverages employees' professional backgrounds and complements the company's role as a responsible lender.

"We're really pleased to be rolling out Financial Futures for Youth and Young Adults during National Financial Literacy Month," said Cheryl Spencer-Border, President and CEO of CCCS-OC. "We're committed to helping our community develop their financial capabilities, and this program enables us to expand that mission to our youth with a strong, committed partner in Hyundai Capital."

CCCS-OC provides its counseling services free of charge, with over ninety percent of counseling sessions conducted in-person at six branches throughout Orange County. In addition, classes are offered at many community venues such as community centers, colleges and universities, community organizations, churches, and employee assistance programs. Clients can also receive counseling via telephone to accommodate work or family situations.
