CCCS of Orange County Hosts Client Appreciation Celebration

Graduation in September? Yes, at the annual event conducted by Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Orange County to recognize the hundreds of families and individuals who have completed our debt management plan (DMP) or housing programs in the past year. At this inspirational and motivational event held at Chapman University on September 17th, both graduates and our clients who are still on their journey to debt freedom were celebrated.

Unlike a high school graduation ceremony, which usually occurs a few months before people head off to college and start incurring significant debt, this graduation honors all our clients' triumph over debt. This year we had a record-breaking class of 243 graduates, an incredible accomplishment that highlights both the dedication of our clients and our success in helping them achieve financial stability.

At the event, we also specifically recognized some of the more truly heartwarming client success stories, such as the tale of Shelly and Rich Mager, our 2014 DMP Graduate Clients of the Year.

Also, this year's recipient of the top honor in the housing program was Jeanne Turner, who faced both financial woes and the heartbreaking loss of her husband.

There was not a dry eye in the house as both Shelly Mager and Jeanne Turner shared their stories and encouragement with both the other graduates and our continuing DMP clients present at the event. Also receiving special honors for their achievement in working successfully through the DMP program were Amber Zimmermann-Ahlo and Diana Wise, while Robert and Evangeline Matthews and Laura and Shannon Fisher were feted for their success in the housing program.

"Our Client Appreciation and Graduation Event is the premier celebration of our year's activities," said CCCS-OC President and CEO Cheryl Spencer-Borden. "We get a chance firsthand to see that our financial counseling and plans are successful and to hear the impact we have made on people's lives. I am proud to say that for the second year in a row, CCCS-OC has had impressive record-breaking growth in our graduation class."

We also enjoyed an insightful address from Reginald H. Gilyard, Dean of The George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics, Chapman University. He shared a heartwarming message about "throwing the rope back" - encouraging our graduates, who had used the "rope" of CCCS-OC to help them climb out of their debt pit, to "throw the rope back" by spreading the hopeful word about our services to help others climb out as well.
