FREE CREDIT MONITORING!

CCCS-OC and Our Clients Benefit from Impressive Experian Donation

The national office for CCCS-OC, the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC), and Experian have announced that Experian has committed 80,000 free 12-month memberships to their freecreditscore.com credit monitoring service in support of the Sharpen Your Financial Focus program, launched in September of this year. The donation, the largest of its kind ever awarded by Experian, will be used by CCCS-OC and other agencies in the nation to complement the financial education programs CCCS-OC and others provide to individuals.

"CCCS-OC is more than thrilled with the generous donation arranged by NFCC with Experian. We are proud to join forces with Experian, as together we help our community rebuild from one of the most difficult financial periods of their lifetimes and rebuild our clients' financial stability," said Cheryl Borden, CEO of CCCS-OC.

Some of the many features that CCCS-OC offers with the freecreditscore.com membership include:
  • The member's Experian credit report and credit score
  • The Score Planner feature, which allows consumers to see how various financial actions can impact credit scores
  • Credit monitoring to notify the user of negative information being reported on their credit report
  • Alerts that notify members about new inquiry activity on their credit reports
  • A mobile app enabling alerts and updates on the go
  • Access to fraud resolution agents if suspicious activity is found in the member's report
These features all are designed to increase consumers' understanding of credit and to provide knowledge that can be used to make educated financial decisions.

To obtain the free credit monitoring service through the Sharpen Your Financial Focus program at CCCS-OC, follow these three steps:
  1. Visit our website, www.cccsoc.org, and scroll down to the gold My Money Checkup button on the left side of our home page. Clicking here provides an online financial self-assessment tool designed to increase financial awareness and provide you with concrete steps to improve your financial well-being.
  2. Contact our office to schedule a free one-on-one financial review with one of the CCCS-OC Certified Financial Professionals to find solutions to current concerns and develop a realistic plan to meet long-term goals.
  3. After your session, your freecreditscore.com activation code will be emailed to you. Plus, if appropriate, we will refer you to one or more free financial education workshops designed as a "deep dive" into the major area(s) of interest to you specific to your finances.
"Interest in credit scores and how to improve them is at an all-time high with consumers. This donation from Experian puts a very useful tool in the hands of our client and counselor that can really help clients take control of their credit profile and maximize their creditworthiness," said Natalie Lohrenz, CDO of CCCS-OC. "We find that our clients are fascinated by how financial activities such as spending and/or paying bills can impact that number. Seeing those effects powerfully motivates clients to make positive changes to their financial behavior in the real world."

Experian's donation shows they agree. "We put a lot of resources toward financial education intended to remove the mystery surrounding credit reports and scores," said Victor Nichols, CEO of Experian North America. "Contributing these memberships is a very tangible way to simultaneously educate consumers and demonstrate the impact that credit education products can have on a person's long-term financial wellness. Doing that through a trusted credit counseling organization like NFCC and its agencies is a natural extension of our commitment to helping consumers and our commitment to giving back to the communities where we work."
