IRS Releases Dirty Dozen Tax Scams
The IRS has released its top 12 scams for taxpayers to beware of this tax season. The annual list contains scams that could happen at any time during the year, but seem to be especially prevalent during tax season. Among those is identity theft, a serious yet quiet crime. People whose identities have been stolen can spend months or years cleaning up the mess identity thieves have made of their good name and credit record. Some victims have lost job opportunities; been refused mortgages, student loans, and auto financing; or even been arrested for crimes they didn’t commit. It's important to learn how to minimize your risk, identify possible identity theft warning signs, and understand the steps to fight it if you become a victim.
